COW

Dir. Andrea Arnold | UK | 2021 | 94 min | English | subtitles in Lithuanian

One of the most important British directors, Andrea Arnold, famous for her fiction films about vulnerable social groups, presented her first documentary at the 2019 Cannes Film Festival – a portrait of the cow Luma. The film captures the daily cycles of a cow from a very close perspective, ranging from looking at green fields to jostling in stalls, from milking, surrounded by loud pop music songs, to giving birth.

“Director Andrea Arnold always looks at her characters with extraordinary love and care, and this film is no exception. She looks at the animal with the same love, seeking to bring us closer to the depth of Luma’s existence. The film has an incredible emotional impact.”
